Bishops Run Off with Owls Opener Title

1st of 3 at Kenyon Owls Opener

Freshman Aicha Tounkara (Delaware/Hayes) won individual honors and Ohio Wesleyan placed 6 runners in the top 10 to take the team title at the Owls Opener, hosted by Kenyon College on Friday in Gambier.

Ohio Wesleyan won the meet with 23 points to 50 for Kenyon and 59 for Denison.  The meet win was the first for the Bishops since Sept. 7, 2013, when Ohio Wesleyan won the OWU Invitational and Great Lakes Colleges Association titles at Liberty Park, and the Bishops' first road meet win since Sept. 17, 2011, when the Bishops defeated 6 opponents to win the Wittenberg Pre-NCAC Invitational in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Tounkara won the 4000-meter race in 15:30.03, finishing 2 seconds ahead of Kenyon's Olivia Ide and 3 seconds of Ohio Wesleyan freshman Zoe Ward (Columbus/Worthington Christian).

Freshman Sophie Cotts (Granville) finished fifth in 15:48.78, freshman Brianna Montgomery (Gibsonburg) placed sixth in 15:52.85, and junior Eleanor Luttman (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington) completed the Ohio Wesleyan scoring with an eighth-place finish in 16:17.05.

Freshman Elsa Hoam (Fredericktown) finished 10th in 16:21.75 and junior Katelyn Stapleton (Urbana/West Liberty Salem) was 11th in 16:40.08.
