Sophomore forward Emma Wright (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) tallied the game-winning goal and freshman midfielder Grace Ammon (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) tied Ohio Wesleyan and North Coast Athletic Conference records as the Bishops blanked Sewanee in the second round of the Sewanee Invitational on Saturday in Sewanee, Tenn.
Wright put the Bishops ahead to stay in the fourth minute, courtesy of an assist by Ammon.
Ohio Wesleyan made it a 2-0 contest when Ammon set up sophomore midfielder Alyssa Markell (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) on a score off a penalty corner with 1:25 left in the opening period.
Sophomore forward Olivia Danley (Del Rio, Texas/Independence (Va.)) scored early in the second period and junior forward Colleen McMenamin (Chester, N.J./West Morris Regional) added a goal with 4:50 left in the half, with Ammon credited with an assist on the play. Sophomore midfielder Avery Slucher (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy of Louisville) scored to make it a 5-0 game in the third quarter.
Ammon scored in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, with Wright assisting on the play, then set up a goal in the 49th minute with a feed to senior forward Emily Streeter (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) after a penalty corner. Slucher wrapped up the day's scoring in the 52nd minute with an assist by freshman forward Mattison Hyland (Broadheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley).
Ammon finished the day with a goal and 4 assists, with the 4 assists tying the school record set by Beth Korkin against Sewanee on Sept. 21, 1996, and the NCAC record set by Korkin and tied by Wooster's Amanda Artman against Earlham on Oct. 30, 2010.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Sewanee, 57-1. Junior Brynn Schlesinger (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) and junior Meg McCarthy (Trumbull, Conn.) combined on the shutout in the Bishop cage.
