Ohio Wesleyan 4, Lincoln Memorial 0
Sophomore forward Olivia Danley (Del Rio, Texas/Independence, (Va.)) scored Ohio Wesleyan's first 2 goals to start the Bishops on their way to a non-conference win over Division II entity Lincoln Memorial on Thursday at Selby Stadium.
The win was Ohio Wesleyan's seventh in a row to start the season, tying the school record set by the 1974 team.
The Bishops and Railsplitters battled through most of the first quarter with but 3 shots between the teams, but that changed during the final seconds of the period. Sophomore midfielder Alyssa Markell (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) injected the ball on a penalty corner to freshman midfielder Grace Ammon (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional), who found Danley in front for the goal with :19 remaining.
Danley made it 2-0 early in the third quarter after a penalty corner. Sophomore midfielder Avery Slucher (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy of Louisville) had a shot blocked, and a follow shot by Danley was stopped by Railsplitter defender Guadaloupe Montaldo. The rebound angled toward the left post and went into the cage at the 12:23 mark.
Shortly thereafter, senior forward Allie Crawford (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) found the back of the cage, with Markell credited with an assist on the play.
Sophomore forward Emma Wright (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) added a goal later in the quarter, knocking home the rebound of a save by LMU keeper Ana Carney. Ohio Wesleyan's 3 third-quarter goals tied the school record set against Oberlin on Sept. 8, 2021, and tied against Oberlin on Sept. 1, 2022 and at Earlham on Oct. 29, 2022.
