Senior forward Allie Crawford (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) and sophomore forward Olivia Danley (Del Rio, Texas/Independence, (Va.)) scored goals to lift Ohio Wesleyan over Wittenberg in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday in Springfield.
The win was Ohio Wesleyan's eighth in a row to start the season, breaking the school record set by the 1974 team, and raised the Bishops' record to 2-0 in the NCAC.
The Bishops took the lead in the second minute of play. Crawford injected a penalty corner to freshman midfielder Grace Ammon (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional), who dished to sophomore midfielder Avery Slucher (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy of Louisville). Slucher's low shot was redirected into the air by Danley, and Crawford tipped it into the Tiger cage at the 1:47 mark.
Ohio Wesleyan increased its lead in the fourth quarter. After a penalty corner, sophomore forward Emma Wright (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) passed ahead to Danley, whose shot got past Wittenberg keeper Caitlin Archdeacon in the 51st minute.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wittenberg, 29-6. Junior Brynn Schlesinger (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made 1 save during the first half and junior Meg McCarthy (Trumbull, Conn.) had 2 saves during the second half to combine on the shutout.
