Crawford Goal Proves to Be Game-Winner for Field Hockey

Senior forward Allie Crawford (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) set up one goal and scored what proved to be the deciding goal as Ohio Wesleyan defeated Gettysburg in non-conference play in Sunday in Gettysburg, Pa.

The Bishops took the lead just under a minute into the second quarter when Crawford set up sophomore forward Emma Wright (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) on a goal, then increased the margin to 2-0 when freshman forward Mattison Hyland (Broadheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) knocked in a rebound of a defensive save with 1:03 remaining in the first half.

Gettysburg got on the scoreboard when Jane Mezzanotte tapped in a pass from Sam Woolery with 5:17 left in the third quarter.

Crawford answered for Ohio Wesleyan by converting a penalty stroke with 9:10 remaining in regulation time.

The Bullets closed to within 3-2 in the closing seconds of regulation as Brinsley Rushe scored after a penalty corner, with Morgan Cherry credited with an assist on the play.

Gettysburg outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 17-8.  Junior Brynn Schlesinger (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) finished with 13 saves in the Bishop cage.
