Ohio Wesleyan 68, Denison 51
Sophomore guard Mia Guscoff (Canton/Massillon Perry) scored 5 points during a 13-2 run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and freshman post Macy Miller (Marysville/Fairbanks) and senior guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) posted double-doubles in a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Denison on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.
The Big Red raced to a 6-0 lead as Abby Cooch converted a 3-point play and Ada Taute connected from long range, and the visitors still led, 8-3, after a hoop by Morgan Kress.
Senior point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) and Schipfer started the Bishop run with lay-ins, and Guscoff added a lay-in and a 3-pointer. Senior guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) also buried a shot from downtown during the run, which ended with Ohio Wesleyan holding a 16-10 lead with 3:13 left in the opening quarter.
Denison closed to within 20-18 on Kress' 3-point play during the final seconds of the period, but the Bishops opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to extend the lead into double digits, and Ohio Wesleyan would take a 40-30 lead into the locker room.
A Brooke Toigo 3-pointer brought the visitors within 42-38 midway through the third quarter, but Ohio Wesleyan soon went on a 9-0 run that included a 3-pointer by Guscoff, and the Bishop lead would remain in double figures throughout the remainder of the evening.
Schipfer led the Bishops with 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for a second consecutive and fourth double-double of the season. Miller added 10 points and a team- and season-best 13 boards. Homan had 10 points and led Ohio Wesleyan with 6 assists, and Denison also scored 10 points.
