Ohio Wesleyan 88, Hiram 52

Freshman post Macy Miller (Marysville/Fairbanks), senior guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg), and junior post Alyssa Griner (Delaware/Hayes) had 4 points apiece during a 12-2 run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay in a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Hiram on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Hiram had tied the game at 8 when Brooke Hickman converted a 3-point play at the 6:14 mark of the first quarter.

Schipfer answered with a lay-in to put the Bishops ahead for good, and senior point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) then stole the ball and fed Griner for a fast-break lay-in.  Another fast-break lay-in from Griner and another Schipfer bucket preceded a pair of Miller hoops that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 22-10 lead with 2:04 left.

The Terriers closed to within 24-15 on a Breyana Buxton 3-pointer during the final minute of the period, but Griner and Miller each contributed lay-ins during a 7-0 run early in the second quarter that helped the Bishops stretch the lead.  Ohio Wesleyan went on to take a 45-27 lead at the intermission, and the visitors would not come closer than that 18-point margin throughout the remainder of the game.

Miller led the Bishops with 17 points and shared the team lead with 7 rebounds, while Schipfer added 14 points and shared the team lead with 7 boards.  Griner finished with 12 points and Homan dished out 11 assists, matching a season best.
