Women's Basketball Triumphs Over Wooster

Four different Bishops scored 10 or more points as the Ohio Wesleyan women's basketball team defeated The College of Wooster on Wednesday night at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Bishops were led by senior guard Kasey Schipfer's (Mechanicsburg) game-high 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists.  Junior post Alyssa Griner (Delaware/Hayes) added 13 points, freshman post Macy Miller (Marysville/Fairbanks) scored 12, and senior guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) finished with 10.

After going down in the first quarter's opening minutes, the Bishops went on an 8-0 run to take the lead over the Fighting Scots.  OWU led by just 4, 16-12, in the final minute, but their lead continued to climb as the second quarter began.

OWU proceeded to control the second quarter, outscoring Wooster, 25-6.  The Bishops' defense was all over the court, forcing 6 turnovers in the period and scoring 8 second-chance points.  Going into the half, OWU led by more than 20 points, with a comfortable 41-18 lead.

The third quarter went on similarly for the Bishops, outscoring the Fighting Scots, 24-15.  Schipfer scored 7 straight for the Bishops.  After a series of free throws by Tatiyana Sturdivant for Wooster, junior guard Kelsey Wolfe (Apple Creek/Waynedale) sank a 3-pointer and then forced a turnover for the home side.  Denison scored the final point of the quarter, adding a layup with 0.03 seconds left on the clock.

To finish off the game, the Bishops scored 16 in the final quarter to solidify their win.  Junior post Karlee Ross (Beverly/Fort Frye) and freshman post Macy Miller (Marysville/Fairbanks) put up 4 points each while sophomore post Kelsey Adelman (Louisville), junior post Chelsea Edington (Delaware/Buckeye Valley), and Wolfe added 2 apiece.
