Junior midfielder Alyssa Markell (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) and freshman forward Mary Powers (Centreville, Va./Chantilly) tallied goals for Ohio Wesleyan as the Bishops moved to 4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a win over Transylvania on Friday in Lexington, Ky.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Bishops took the lead midway through the second period. Ohio Wesleyan had earned a penalty corner, and Powers inserted the ball to sophomore midfielder Grace Ammon (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional), who played it on to Markell for the goal.
Ohio Wesleyan increased its lead during the fourth quarter on a goal by Powers, with junior midfielder Avery Slucher (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy of Louisville) credited with an assist on the play.
Ohio Wesleyan enjoyed a 27-0 advantage in shots during the contest. Senior goalkeeper Meg McCarthy (Trumbull, Conn.) recorded the shutout in the Ohio Wesleyan cage.
