Horton Paces Men's Cross Country at NCAA Regional

27th of 43 at NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional championship

Senior Wes Horton (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) led Ohio Wesleyan at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional championship meet, hosted by Franklin College on Sunday at the Blue River Cross Country Course in Shelbyville, Ind.

Calvin won the meet with 99 points to 112 for John Carroll.  Hope was third with 129 points, followed by Case Reserve (137), Trine (166), Ohio Northern (214), Wittenberg (243), Mount Union (259), and DePauw (273).  Otterbein rounded out the top 10 teams with a total of 281 points, followed by Rose Hulman (371), Manchester (382), Baldwin Wallace (384), Centre (389), Oberlin (435), Wilmington (443), Franciscan (467), Wooster (468), and Kalamazoo (498).  Kenyon completed the top 20 teams with a score of 535, followed by Wabash (586), Franklin (603), Hanover (668), Adrian (705), Heidelberg (713), Denison (721), Ohio Wesleyan (746), Capital (766), Asbury (870), Anderson (881), Transylvania (900), Allegheny (918), Albion (923), Marietta (971), Muskingum (1007), Berea (1038), Bluffton (1059), Olivet (1121), Alma (1149), Spalding (1229), Earlham (1312), and Hiram (1320).  Mount St. Joseph did not record a team score.

Brayden Curnutt of Wabash won the race in 24:36.83, defeating Calvin's Luke Witvliet by more than 11 seconds.

Horton finished 93rd in 26:50.45.

Senior Preston Pethtel (Heath) placed 145th in 27:30.51, freshman Jacob Blubaugh (Columbus/Bishop Ready) was 161st in 27:45.32, sophomore Perry Jackson (Springfield/New Carlisle Tecumseh) finished 168th in 27:59.23, and senior Simon Leck (Toledo/St. Francis DeSales) completed the Bishop scoring with a 180th-place finish in 28:17.39.

Junior Xavier Platt (Fredericktown) was 188th in 28:29.08 and senior Kory Kaiser (Cincinnati/West Clermont) placed 190th in 28:37.61.
