Women's Cross Country Seventh, Ward Wins All-Region Honors

7th of 43 at NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional championship

Sophomore Zoe Ward (Columbus/Worthington Christian) won all-region honors in leading Ohio Wesleyan at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional championship meet, hosted by Franklin College on Sunday at the Blue River Cross Country Course in Shelbyville, Ind.

DePauw won the meet with 91 points to 94 for Calvin.  Trine was third with 109 points, followed by Wittenberg (165), John Carroll (185), Allegheny (198), Ohio Wesleyan (224), Kalamazoo (232), and Case Reserve (246).  Ohio Northern completed the top 10 teams with 259 points, followed by Mount Union (284), Otterbein (320), Hope (343), Centre (352), Franciscan (428), Baldwin Wallace (482), Manchester (515), Hanover (533), and Berea (584).  Oberlin rounded out the top 20 finishers with 592 points, followed by Wooster (601), Transylvania (628), Alma (660), Denison (664), St. Mary's (Ind.) (666), Kenyon (719), Albion (795), Heidelberg (884), Muskingum (886), Rose-Hulman (897), Hiram (902), Capital (950), Marietta (1005), Adrian (1022), Asbury (1040), Franklin (1055), Olivet (1064), Anderson (1124), and Spalding (1175).  Wilmington, Mount St. Joseph, Earlham, and Bluffton did not record team scores.  The seventh-place finish marked Ohio Wesleyan's best showing in a regional meet since 2013, when the Bishops finished fourth and advanced to the NCAA Division III championship meet.

Faith Duncan of Wilmington won the race, completing the 6000-meter course in 20:58.99, more than 30 seconds ahead of Kalamazoo's Paige Anderson.

Ward finished ninth in 22:10.02, earning all-region honors for the second consecutive season.

Sophomore Allison Dietz (Newark) placed 51st in 23:20.92, junior McKenna Downing (Pleasant Hill/Newton Local) was 54th in 23:27.27, sophomore Sophie Cotts (Granville) placed 57th in 23:32.49, and sophomore Brianna Montgomery (Gibsonburg) closed out the Ohio Wesleyan scoring with a 58th-place finish in 23:33.35.

Sophomore Elsa Hoam (Fredericktown) was 99th in 24:09.67 and sophomore Aicha Tounkara (Delaware/Hayes) placed 107th in 24:23.03.
