9th of 11 at Adrian Invite

Junior Luke Milanovich (Powell/Dublin Jerome) placed in the championship bracket and freshman Liam Hatgas (Parma Heights/Holy Name), freshman Skyler Cornell (Port Clinton), and freshman Ian Drake (Haines City, Fla./Ridge Community) placed in the freshman/sophomore bracket as Ohio Wesleyan opened its season at the Adrian Invite, hosted by Adrian College on Saturday in Adrian, Mich.

Wabash won the tournament with 177 points to 128½ for Adrian.  Case Reserve was third with 115½ points, followed by Trine (109), Heidelberg (98), Averett (94½), Mount St. Joseph (46), Slippery Rock (22), Ohio Wesleyan (9), and Henry Ford and Jamestown (0).

After receiving a first-round bye at 157, Milanovich fell to John Conover of Case Reserve in a championship quarterfinal matchup.  In the consolation bracket, Milanovich advanced with a 10-5 decision over Cal Kniesteadt of Adrian to advance to the semifinals.  In the semis, Milanovich fell to Anthony Taylor of Averett, and in the fifth-place match, Milanovich met up with Conover again, with Conover winning by a score of 10-7.

Hatgas won the freshman/sophomore 141 bracket, storming through the bracket by pinning Brady Packer of Adrian) and defeating Averett's Joseph Naef on a technical fall to advance to the semifinals.  In the semis, Hatgas posted another technical fall, this time over over Owen Fagan of Wabash.  In the championship, Hatgas pinned Connar Mitchell of Mount St Joseph to take the title.

Cornell received a first-round bye in the 157 freshman/sophomore bracket, then lost a 15-4 major decision to Ryan Long of Slippery Rock to move into the consolation bracket.  Cornell fell to Roman Perna in the third round, and in the seventh-place match, Cornell won an 11-4 decision over Manny Frederick of Trine.

Drake received a first-round bye in the 149 freshman/sophomore bracket, then fell to Cole Workman of Adrian in the quarterfinals.  In the consolation bracket, Drake pinned Collin Oliver of Adrian before dropping an 8-5 decision to Dominick Paul of Wabash.  In the seventh-place match, Drake pinned Bryce Brown of Mount St Joseph.
