The 24th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University women's basketball team hosted its first home game of the season, downing Muskingum, 91-58, to improve to 4-0 on the season on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Fifth-year guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) got the Bishops on the board first with a jumper.  Fifth-year point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) and Schipfer each added another bucket to open the game 6-0 for Ohio Wesleyan.

As the first quarter dwindled, junior guard Mia Guscoff (Canton/Massillon Perry) hit back-to-back 3-pointers to increase the Bishops' lead to 12, which they continued to build upon.  Another 3-pointer from senior guard Lauren Gerber (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) with :06 left on the clock closed the first at 31-12 with the Bishops leading.

The 31 points in the first quarter tied the Ohio Wesleyan school record for most points in the opening quarter that was set on March 6, 2021, against Wooster.

The second quarter followed in similar fashion with the Bishops' lead increasing to 30 points during a run that featured a layup from senior post Karlee Ross (Beverly/Fort Frye) and a jumper by fifth-year guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial)

To start the third quarter, the Bishops extended their lead to 37 points over the Muskies, with sophomore post Macy Miller (Marysville/Milford Center Fairbanks) notching a fast-break layup.  As the quarter came to a close, senior guard Maddie Schumacher (Tiffin/Calvert) scored two quick layups and Guscoff added another 3-pointer.

Muskingum evened things out in the fourth quarter with both teams scoring 18 points but the Bishops had already run away with the contest.

Schipfer led the way with 23 points, while Denison followed with 14.  Both Gerber and Guscoff notched 11 each.  Homan collected 10 assists.
