Mayberry Leads Men's Swimming at Corbiere-Merion

Junior Graham Mayberry (Urbandale, Iowa/Granville (Ohio)) won an event and helped a relay team to a win to help Ohio Wesleyan take the lead in the team standings after the first day of the Corbiere-Merion Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at the Meek Center.

Ohio Wesleyan was atop the team standings with 430 points to 428 for Wilmington.  Davis & Elkins was in third place with 392 points, followed by West Virginia Wesleyan (222), Heidelberg (181), and Hanover (180).

Mayberry won the 200 backstroke in 1:59.41 and added a second in the 100 backstroke.  Mayberry teamed with sophomore Nathan Ambler (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne), sophomore Alex Tovtyn (Allenstown, N.H./Pinkerton Academy), and sophomore Ian Sander (Pemberville/Eastwood) to win the 800 freestyle relay in 7:20.02.  Mayberry, Sander, and Ambler joined forces with junior Evan Lucas (Cincinnati/Loveland) for a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay and combined with freshman Henry Gaudet (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) to finish second in the 400 freestyle relay.

Other standouts for the Bishops included Sander, who placed second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events; Lucas, who finished second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 100 freestyle; Ambler, who placed third in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 200 breaststroke; Gaudet, who was fourth in the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle; Tovtyn, who finished fourth in the 200 IM; sophomore C.J. Abahazi (Delaware/Hayes), who was fifth in the 100 breaststroke; and senior Chevy Kosek (Cleveland/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), who finished fifth in the 200 IM.

The Corbiere-Merion Invitational is scheduled to conclude on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.

The Corbiere-Merion Invitational honors the memory of Payson Corbiere '96 and T'ai Merion '96, who were members of the Ohio Wesleyan men's swimming team.
