Ohio Wesleyan 66, Widener 35

Sophomore post Macy Miller (Marysville/Milford Center Fairbanks) collected 11 points and a pair of assists as Ohio Wesleyan outscored Widener, 20-3, during the first quarter on the way to a win in the Bishops' season opener at the Yonnie Kauffman Blue Jay Tournament, hosted by Elizabethtown College on Friday in Elizabethtown, Pa.

Ohio Wesleyan will face host Elizabethtown, a 79-45 winner over Marymount (Va.) on Friday, in the tournament champion
ship game on Saturday.

Miller put the Bishops on the scoreboard just over 2 minutes into the action, and after Mia Robbins split a pair of free throws for the Pride, Miller started a fast break, with junior guard Mia Guscoff (Canton/Massillon Perry) finishing the break.  A 3-pointer by senior guard Lauren Gerber (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) and another Miller hoop made it 9-1, and the Bishops scored the final 11 points of the period, with Miller hitting a jumper from the lane, converting a 3-point play, and adding another jumper from the lane during the final seconds of the quarter for a 20-3 lead.

Fifth-year point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) knocked down a 3-pointer, senior post Chelsea Edington (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) sank a lay-in, and Miller followed with a lay-in during a brief 7-0 burst that extended the lead to 27-5 early in the second quarter, and the Bishop lead would remain at least 20 points throughout the remainder of the contest.

Miller led the Bishops with 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Homan finished with a team-high 6 assists.
