Sophomore post Macy Miller (Marysville/Milford Center Fairbanks) had 4 points during a 10-1 first-quarter run that gave 10th/12th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan the lead, but Rhode Island College rallied for a win over the Bishops in the Puerto Rico Clasico tournament on Thursday in Caguas, Puerto Rico.

Fifth-year guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) connected on a 3-pointer that wiped out a 4-2 deficit, fifth-year guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) converted a 3-point play midway through the period, and Miller sank a pair of free throws and added a jumper from the lane to give the Bishops a 12-5 lead with 1:10 remaining in the quarter.

Miller contributed a free throw and a jumper as the Bishops closed out the first half with a 6-0 burst to take a 22-14 lead at the intermission.  Ohio Wesleyan held Rhode Island College to 24 percent shooting (6 of 25) during the first half, but the Anchorwomen defense also played well, holding the Bishops to 8 of 29 (27.6 percent) shooting during the period.

A Denison tip-in and a Miller free throw extended the Bishop lead to 25-14 early in the third quarter, and Ohio Wesleyan still led, 27-18, after a Miller lay-in at the 6:29 mark when the Anchorwomen went on an 18-4 run that was opened and closed by Shalyn Smith 3-pointers, included 5 buckets by Angelina Nardolillo, and gave Rhode Island College a 36-31 advantage after the third period.

The Ohio Wesleyan defense forced 9 turnovers during the fourth quarter and the Bishops closed to within 40-37 on a Schipfer lay-in with 3:05 left in regulation time, but Rhode Island College countered with a free throw from Madison Medbury, then Naima Bleou hit 4 straight from the stripe to extend the lead to 45-37.

The Bishops pulled to within 46-42 on a pair of free throws by fifth-year point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) with :25 to go, but that was as close as Ohio Wesleyan would come.

Miller led Ohio Wesleyan with 15 points and shared the team lead with 8 rebounds.  Schipfer finished with 12 points, Denison shared the team lead with 8 boards, and Homan had a team-high 7 assists.
