Bodovetz, Drake, Perry Place at Ohio Northern

Senior Tyler Bodovetz (Steetsboro), freshman Ian Drake (Haines City, Fla./Ridge Community), and senior Des Perry (Garnet Valley, Pa.) placed for Ohio Wesleyan at the ONU Invitational, hosted by Ohio Northern University on Saturday in Ada, Ohio.

Ohio Northern won the meet with 231 points to 207 for Olivet.  Tiffin finished third with 173 points, followed by Heidelberg (99½), Mount St. Joseph (81½), Washington & Jefferson (68½), Otterbein (64), Alma (63), Ohio Wesleyan (44), Waynesburg (42½), Muskingum (27), and Hiram (24½).

Bodovetz placed third in the 174-pound bracket.  After a first-round bye, Bodovetz pinned Tanner Alsept of Tiffin in the second round and won an 8-1 decision over Landon Cook of Heidelberg to advance to the semifinals.  In the semifinal, Bodovetz lost a 14-8 decision to David Davis of Tiffin, but Bodovetz bounced back to record a technical fall over Hayden Koehler of Olivet in the consolation semifinal and won a 6-4 decision over Adam Myers of Ohio Northern in the third-place match.

Wrestling at 149, Drake opened the day by pinning Gunnar Hickman of Washington & Jefferson before falling to Gavin Owens of Tiffin in the second round.  Drake recorded 3 straight wins to advance in the consolation bracket, pinning Bryce Brown of Mount St. Joseph and Claude Buckmaster of Heidelberg before posting a 16-0 technical fall over Andrew Sas of Otterbein.  Drake fell to Gavin Owens of Tiffin in the fifth round, and that was Drake's sixth matchup of the day, so he could not compete in the seventh-place match.


Perry placed eighth in the 184-pound bracket.  After receiving a first-round bye, Perry lost a 14-8 decision to Ajay Locke of Ohio Northern.  In the consolation bracket, Perry advanced with a pin of Otterbein's Cade Holmes and a 6-4 decision over Otterbein's Gary Steele.  In the fifth round, Perry lost a technical fall to Evan Straub of Tiffin, and in the seventh-place match, Perry fell to Luke Martin of Alma.
