Wolverines Hold Off Bishop Comeback

Junior attacker Carson Geier (Milford) scored a pair of goals to as Ohio Wesleyan sought to wipe out a 7-3 halftime deficit, but Grove City withstood the Bishop comeback to take a non-conference win on Saturday in Grove City, Pa.

Geier opened the second-half scoring with a goal, and after Grove City's Rigdon Greene answered with a score, it was Geier again, this time off a feed from junior attacker Spencer Amacher (Blacksburg, Va./Blue Ridge School), to bring the Bishops within 8-5.  The Wolverines got scores from James Petrolle and Greene to take a 10-5 lead into the final quarter.

Junior midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) scored off a feed from freshman midfielder Henry Ross (Snoqualmie, Wash./Mount Si) early in the quarter, and the Bishops closed to within 10-7 on a score by freshman attacker Wade Beckstrom (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) with 3:00 to go.  Ross found Amacher for a score for the 10-8 final.

Grove City had taken a 3-0 lead during the first quarter on scores by Sam Stevenson, Zachary Hougan, and Matt Blythe.

Beckstrom put the Bishops on the scoreboard during the first minute of the second quarter, but Grove City answered with a 4-1 run that included a pair of scores by Blythe.

Geier and Beckstrom scored 3 goals apiece for Ohio Wesleyan, while Amacher finished with a goal and an assist.  Junior Nathan George (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) went the distance in the Bishop goal, recording 10 saves.
