Sophomore midfielder Sam Frary (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley Charter) scored to kick off an 11-0 run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, and the Bishops went on to a win over Allegheny in their season opener on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.
Senior attacker Nicole Klabus (Delaware/Hayes) put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard first midway through the first quarter, but the Gators answere with a score by Kennedy Kyle midway through the period.
Frary scored less than a minute later to give the Bishops the lead, and junior attacker Casey Conklin (Marcellus, N.Y.) added a goal that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 3-1 lead after the opening quarter.
Ohio Wesleyan outscored Allegheny, 7-0, during the second quarter and added 2 more goals during third period. Junior midfielder Amara Carlson (Dublin/Coffman) scored 3 goals during the second quarter alone, and Klabus and Frary each added their second of the day to help the Bishops to a 10-1 lead at the intermission. Sophomore midfielder Tiffany Trinh (Dublin/Scioto) and junior attacker Caroline Fleming (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) tallied during the third quarter to increase the margin to 12-1.
Carlson finished the day with 3 goals and an assist, while Klabus and Frary each contributed 2 goals and an assist, and Fleming and Trinh scored 2 goals each. Junior Abby Markowitz (Las Vegas, Nev./Somerset Academy) went the distance in the Bishop crease, stopping 9 shots.
