Freshman attacker Wade Beckstrom (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) scored to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 4-3 late in the first quarter, but fourth-ranked Christopher Newport answered with a 9-1 run and went on to a non-conference win over the Bishops on Sunday in Newport News, Va.

The Captains opened the game with a pair of goals from Andrew Cook, and after junior midfielder Brady Hunt (Maineville/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) scored to bring the Bishops within 2-1, Brett Jackson and Cook scored to extend the CNU lead to 4-1.

Freshman midfielder Henry Ross (Snoqualmie, Wash./Mount Si) and Beckstrom followed with goals just over a minute apart, with Beckstrom's goal making it 4-3 with 3:23 left in the first quarter.

Jackson and Luke Nardone scored goals :18 apart early in the second quarter to kick off the Captains' run, with Robby Adams adding 2 scores later in the quarter as the hosts built a 9-3 halftime lead.

Junior attacker Carson Geier (Milford) opened the second-half scoring with a goal, but Christopher Newport reeled off the next 4 scores, including 2 by Cook, to stretch the margin to 13-4.

Geier tallied a pair of goals during the fourth quarter, while junior attacker Spencer Amacher (Blacksburg, Va./Blue Ridge School) recorded a goal and an assist during the period.

Geier led the Bishops with 3 goals, while Amacher and Hunt each finished with a goal and an assist.  Junior Nathan George (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) recorded 14 saves in the Bishop goal.
