Senior guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) started and finished a 16-0 second-quarter run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay and finished with a season-high 28 points as the Bishops defeated DePauw on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The win evened Ohio Wesleyan and DePauw in the loss column in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings, with the Tigers holding on to first place with a 9-2 record and the Bishops right behind at 8-2.  The win also was the Bishops' first over DePauw at Branch Rickey Arena since Feb. 22, 2014, snapping a 9-game skid.

The opening quarter saw the Bishops get on the board first.  A Schipfer jumper put 2 points on the board, which senior point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) and junior post Alyssa Griner (Delaware/Hayes) quickly added to.  With 1:39 on the clock, sophomore guard Mia Guscoff (Canton/Massillon Perry) knocked down a three to give OWU a 13-12 lead heading into the second.

DePauw took a 14-13 lead on an Olivia Hart jumper, but a pair of Schipfer free throws started the 16-0 run and put the Bishops ahead to stay.  After senior guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) sank a 3-pointer, OWU took off with their major press.  A series of 6 free throws, 4 by Homan and 2 by freshman post Macy Miller (Marysville/Fairbanks), and a Schipfer 3-pointer gave Ohio Wesleyan a 29-14 lead before the home side headed into halftime ahead 31-18.

The Tigers came out strong in the third quarter in attempts to close the gap.  They outscored the Bishops, 24-18.  Back-to-back 3-pointers from DePauw's Alina Prusko helped propel the Tigers but Ohio Wesleyan went into the fourth holding on to a 49-42 lead.

The final quarter saw the visitors close to within 3 points when Tori Allen's 3-pointer midway through the period made it a 56-53 game, but Schipfer answered with a jumper on Ohio Wesleyan's next possession, kicking off a 6-0 burst that also included a Miller hoop and a pair of Schipfer free throws.  Miller's lay-in with :51 to play gave the Bishops a 66-57 lead, and for the final 40 seconds of the game, the teams traded free throws, with OWU sinking all 8 of its shots.

The team grabbed 36 rebounds, produced 24 points in the paint, and forced 17 turnovers.

Schipfer went 9-for-13 from the field and 9-for-10 from the line and added a game-high 12 rebounds.  The 28 points and 12 rebounds raised Schipfer's career totals to 1445 points and 689 rebounds, with both figures ranking eighth on the Bishop career lists.

Homan had 12 points and went 10-for-10 on her free throws, a season high in both categories.  Both Griner and Miller dished out 10 points.  Denison tallied 9 points and added 3 steals.
