Senior guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) tallied 5 points during an 8-0 first-quarter run that helped Ohio Wesleyan open up a double-digit lead, and the Bishops tied a school record in a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Kenyon on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Ohio Wesleyan win, combined with DePauw's 68-53 win over Denison, leaves the Tigers in first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings at 10-2 record and the Bishops right behind at 9-2.

Jumpers by junior post Alyssa Griner (Delaware/Hayes) and junior post Karlee Ross (Beverly/Fort Frye) gave the Bishops a 4-0 lead at the 6:38 mark of the opening quarter, but Kenyon's Claudia Cook scored from the paint to bring the Owls within 4-2.

Senior guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) split a pair of free throws and followed with a lay-in off a Ross steal before feeding Denison for a fast-break lay-in, and Denison closed out the 8-0 run with a 3-pointer at the 1:53 mark, giving the Bishops a 12-2 lead.

Cooke had a pair of free throws and a jumper later in the period, and the Owls closed to within 13-8 when Mikayla Rudolph sank a lay-in to open the second-quarter scoring.

Ohio Wesleyan countered with a 9-0 burst that included baskets by Schipfer, Ross, Denison, and Griner, the last putting the Bishops ahead, 22-8, midway through the period, and the Bishops opened up a 34-14 lead at the intermission before pulling away during the second half.

Denison led the Bishops with 19 points, Schipfer finished with 15 points and a team-high 6 rebounds, and Griner scored 13 points.

Senior point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) notched 10 assists.  The 10 assists moved Homan's season total to 144 and into second place on the Bishop season list, trailing only the mark of 167 Homan set last season.

Ohio Wesleyan turned the ball over only 5 times, tying the school record set against DePauw on Jan. 18, 2020.
