Sophomore first baseman Zane Vitense (Maple Grove, Minn.) delivered an infield single to knock in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as Ohio Wesleyan closed out its spring trip with a win over Skidmore on Friday in Fort Myers, Fla.

With the score even at 5 and one down in the bottom of the ninth, fifth-year shortstop D.J. Neff (Grove City) was hit by a pitch.  Junior outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) followed with a single, and after the runners stole third and second, junior second baseman Ryan Duckworth (Hilliard/Bradley) was walked intentionally.  Senior outfielder Edrick Padilla (Salinas, P.R./Perkiomen (Pa.) School) struck out for the second out, but Vitense followed with a single to shortstop, scoring Neff.

Stoner doubled in a run in the first and Padilla doubled and scored in the second as the Bishops took an early lead, but the Thoroughbreds struck for 5 runs in the seventh on a 2-run single by Jaden Torrado and a 3-run homer from Trey Bourque.

Ohio Wesleyan rallied with 3 runs in the eighth on an RBI double by Padilla, a run-scoring single by Vitense, and an infield single by senior outfielder Ryan Stefancin (Cleveland/North Ridgeville).

Stoner went 5-for-5 on the day, while Vitense was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI.  Senior righthander Andy Anthony (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) blanked the Thoroughbreds on 5 hits through the first 5.0 innings, and Vitense collected the win after pitching a scoreless ninth.
