Ohio Wesleyan 13, Transylvania 6

Sophomore midfielder Garrett Smith (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) and freshman attacker Wade Beckstrom (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) had 2 goals apiece as Ohio Wesleyan built an 8-0 lead and went on to a non-conference win over Transylvania on Saturday at Selby Stadium.

Freshman midfielder Henry Ross (Snoqualmie, Wash./Mount Si) put the Bishops on the scoreboard just over a minute into the game, and the teams battled through much of the rest of the period without a goal, until senior midfielder Henry Little (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) beat the horn to give Ohio Wesleyan a 2-0 lead.

Beckstrom and Smith scored back-to-back goals to open the second quarter, and junior midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) added a score midway through the quarter before sophomore midfielder Dennis Van Der Wal (San Anselmo, Calif.) scored during the waning seconds of the half for a 7-0 Bishop lead at the break.

Smith scored to open the third quarter, and after the visitors closed to within 9-3, junior attacker Carson Geier (Milford) scored off a feed from Smith, then sophomore midfielder Noah Citek (Long Beach, Calif./St. John Bosco) won the ensuing face-off and scored just :08 later to increase the margin to 11-3.  Geier and Smith added fourth-quarter goals to provide the 13-6 final.

Smith led the Bishops with 3 goals and an assist, while Geier and Beckstrom scored 2 goals apiece.  Junior Nathan George (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) finished with 8 saves in the Bishop goal.
