Olivet 5, Ohio Wesleyan 1
Junior second baseman Ryan Duckworth (Hilliard/Bradley) drove in a run that put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard, but Olivet went on to a non-conference win over the Bishops on Saturday at Littick Field.
The Comets took the lead in the first inning when Gabriel Kirck launched a home run to right center. Braden Abbott doubled and Austin Alflen followed with a single up the middle to give the visitors a 2-0 lead, and Will Myrick's RBI single in the third increased the Olivet lead to 3-0.
Ohio Wesleyan loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth as freshman third baseman Luke Johnson (Cincinnati/West Batavia Clermont) opened the inning with an infield single and moved when when Olivet leftfielder Matthew Fennell dropped a fly ball off the bat of junior outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome). Senior outfielder Edrick Padilla (Salinas, P.R./Perkiomen (Pa.) School) was hit by a pitch to fill the sacks, and one out later, Duckworth sent a fly ball to shallow right, with Johnson scoring on the play.
Olivet responded with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, with Abbott doubling and coming around to score, and Jack Friesen knocking in a run with an infield out later in the inning.
Senior righthander Andy Anthony (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.
