Senior second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) doubled to kick off a 5-run second inning that started Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a win over Centre in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday in Danville, Ky.

In the nightcap, freshman outfielder Chameron Vanden Eynden (Goshen) drove in a run to send the game into extra innings, but Centre scored in the bottom of the ninth to salvage a split.

Cegledy led off the top of the second inning of the opener with a double down the leftfield line, and after senior shortstop Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) was hit by a pitch, the runners moved up on a wild pitch.  Senior outfielder Rylie Moore (Noblesville, Ind.) followed with a fly ball to right, reaching base on an error by Colonel rightfielder Madalyn Irwin, with Cegledy scoring on the play.  After Moore stole second, junior shortstop McKenna Tuttle (Richmond, Ky./Model Laboratory School) knocked in Anspach with an infield out.  One out later, senior catcher Sara Bias (Sandusky/St. Mary's Central Catholic) singled home Moore.  Bias stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch and senior third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark) walked before Vanden Eynden singled home Bias, and junior outfielder Avery Panozzo (Denver, Colo./Mullen) singled in Back to make it 5-0.

Centre closed to within 5-2  no a 2-run double from Izzy Rushing in the bottom of the inning, but the Bishops collected an RBI double by Vanden Eynden, a run-scoring triple by Panozzo, and an RBI double by Cegledy in the fourth, and added an RBI triple by Panozzo and an RBI double by Cegledy in the sixth.

Cegledy was 3-for-3 with 3 doubles and 2 RBI.  The 3 doubles tied the Bishop single-game record accomplished 4 times previously, most recently by Sarah Flint against Muskingum on March 27, 2014.

Vanden Eynden and Panozzo each went 3-for-4.  Senior lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) worked the first 6.0 innings to record the win.

The second game saw Cegledy cap a 2-run fifth frame with an RBI single that gave the Bishops a 4-3 lead, but the Colonels countered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Rylie Bentley and Layne Ogle.

Ohio Wesleyan evened the score in the sixth when freshman outfielder Rylea Gist (Delaware/Hayes) reached second on a fielding error by Centre third baseman Rushing, moved to third on a double by Bias, and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Vanden Eynden.  Vanden Eynden reached second on the play, putting the go-ahead run at third base, but Panozzo lined into a double play, with Bias caught off third base to end the inning.

The Bishops threatened in the top of the ninth, with Bias placed on second base in the tiebreaker and moving to third on a sacrifice by Back.  Vanden Eynden then sent a fly ball to shallow left center that fell between multiple Centre defenders for a hit, but Bias, who had to hold up at third, was thrown out at the plate trying to score, with Vanden Eynden checking in at third base before Panozzo grounded out to end the inning.

Andrea Searcy was placed on second for Centre in the bottom of the ninth, and Regan Brownley singled to right center, with Searcy holding at third and Brownley moving to second on the throw.  Ogle followed with a grounder to second, with Searcy scoring the game-winning run on the fielder's choice.

Back went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored, Cegledy was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Bias went 2-for-2.  Sophomore righthander Makenna Knisley (Washington Court House/Washington) was the losing pitcher in relief.
