Ohio Wesleyan 18, Transylvania 12

Senior attacker Nicole Klabus (Delaware/Hayes) and junior attacker Casey Conklin (Marcellus, N.Y.) each contributed 2 goals and 2 assists during an 11-1 second-half run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay in a non-conference win over Transylvania on Saturday at Selby Stadium.

The Pioneers broke a 2-2 tie with a 4-1 run to close the first quarter, and Diana Bruder opened the second-quarter scoring to give the visitors a 7-3 lead.  Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 8-7 on a score by senior midfielder Sophia DelGallo (Braintree, Mass.), but Transylvania wrapped up the first half with goals from Sophia Sparks and Lula Thompson to take a 10-7 lead at the break.

Ohio Wesleyan reeled off 5 straight goals to open the second half, with sophomore midfielder Tiffany Trinh (Dublin/Scioto) scoring twice and senior attacker Samantha Diaz (Los Angeles, Calif./Compton Early College), Klabus, and Conklin adding single goals.

Meanwhile, the Bishop defense clamped down on the Pioneers, holding the visitors without a shot in the period until Sofie Garrett found the net with :29 to play to bring Transylvania within 12-11.

Conklin scored off a DelGallo feed to begin the fourth quarter, then returned the favor by setting up a DelGallo goal less than a minute later.  Diaz, junior attacker Caroline Fleming (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette), and Klabus followed with goals before DelGallo wrapped up the Bishop scoring with an unassisted goal with 2:26 remaining.

DelGallo scored a team-high 5 goals and added an assist, while Klabus finished with 3 goals and 5 assists and Conklin collected 3 goals and 3 assists.  Junior Abby Markowitz (Las Vegas, Nev./Somerset Academy) played the first, third, and fourth quarters in goal and made 1 save, and freshman Grace Lilly (Granville) had 1 save during the second quarter.
