Box Score
Ohio Wesleyan 10, John Carroll 9

Senior midfielder Ben Buroker (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown School) scored to give Ohio Wesleyan the lead midway through the fourth quarter, and the Bishop defense withstood a potential game-tying possession during the final minute to take a non-conference win over John Carroll on Saturday in University Heights.

John Carroll had evened the game at 9 on a goal by Sean Keane with 7:40 left in regulation time, completing a comeback from a 9-7 deficit.

Sophomore midfielder Noah Citek (Long Beach, Calif./St. John Bosco) won the ensuing face-off but lost the ball, with Camden Uchic picking up the loose ball for the Blue Streaks.  Freshman midfielder Henry Ross (Snoqualmie, Wash./Mount Si) then caused a turnover by Uchic and collected the ground ball, then found Buroker for the go-ahead score just 13 seconds after John Carroll had scored the equalizer.

It was still a 10-9 game entering the final minute of play, when junior Nathan George (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) stopped a shot by John Carroll's Morgan Morrell.  The Blue Streaks retained possession and had a shot by Colin Morrissey go wide before junior defenseman Wes Silver (Newton, Mass./Newton North) forced a turnover with :29 left, but the visitors got the ball back when Keane forced a turnover at the :23 mark.  After a timeout, JCU's Billy Paladino got a look at the Bishop goal with :05 to go, but George made the stop to preserve the lead and seal the outcome.

John Carroll had broken a 3-3 tie with consecutive goals by Braden Zarek and Morrissey, but the Bishops pulled even when Ross scored during the waning minutes of the first half and junior attacker Carson Geier (Milford) scored during the opening minute of the second half.  The hosts again took a 2-goal lead, this time on scores by Seamus Nicholson and Keane, but this time Ohio Wesleyan answered with a 4-0 run that included scores by Ross, junior midfielder Brady Hunt (Maineville/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy), junior midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty), and sophomore midfielder Garrett Smith (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) to take a 9-7 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Ross led the Bishops with 3 goals and 2 assists, while freshman attacker Wade Beckstrom (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) added 2 goals and an assist.  George went the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan crease, with 8 of his 12 saves on the day coming during the second half.
