Senior third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark) plated the go-ahead run and senior second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) doubled in an insurance run as Ohio Wesleyan defeated Wittenberg in the opener of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday in Springfield.

In the nightcap, the Bishops built a 4-0 lead with the help of run-scoring singles by junior outfielder Avery Panozzo (Denver, Colo./Mullen) and junior first baseman Sophie Leohner (Columbus/Upper Arlington), but the Tigers rallied to salvage a split.

Ohio Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the opener as freshman outfielder Chameron Vanden Eynden (Goshen) singled, stole second, and scored on a single by Panozzo, but Wittenberg answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning.

Senior catcher Sara Bias (Sandusky/St. Mary's Central Catholic) led off the Bishop fifth with a double and Back followed with a bunt that got past Tiger pitcher Kira van Ravensberg, and with the Tiger corner infielders charging and the middle infielders covering first and third, the bunt rolled until centerfielder Meghan McCans came in to field it, with Bias scoring all the way from second.  Vanden Eynden forced Back at second and came in to score on Cegledy's double.

Senior lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) pitched the complete game, striking out 3 and walking one.

The Bishops opened the third inning of the nightcap with singles by senior outfielder Rylie Moore (Noblesville, Ind.), Bias, and Back to load the bases.  A Vanden Eynden fielder's choice and a single by Panozzo knocked in runs, and Vanden Eynden scored on the front end of a double steal before Leohner's single scored Panozzo for a 4-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

Wittenberg got a 2-run double from Ashlynn Stamper and RBI singles by Hanna Ecker and Syd Little to even the score in the bottom of the third, and another 2-run double by Stamper in the fourth gave the Tigers the lead.

Junior righthander Kaelyn Rodriguez (South El Monte, Calif.) was the losing pitcher in relief.
