Senior outfielder Edrick Padilla (Salinas, P.R./Perkiomen (Pa.) School) smashed a 3-run homer to give Ohio Wesleyan an early lead, but Wittenberg rallied for a win in the nightcap of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Littick Field.
In the opener, the Tigers struck for 5 runs in the top of the first inning and went on to the win.
Wittenberg got a 2-run double from Matt Moore and an RBI single by Parker Gryskevich and took advantage of a pair of Bishop errors on the way to plating 5 runs in the first inning of the opener.
Ohio Wesleyan answered with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by sophomore first baseman Zane Vitense (Maple Grove, Minn.) and closed to within 5-3 as sophomore second baseman Jack Bates (Westerville/South) and junior outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) drove in runs during the second inning.
The Tigers added 5 runs in the fourth with the help of a 2-run double by Xander Rodriguez, and tacked on 3 more runs in the seventh, with Luke Thomas singling in a run.
Sophomore righthander Hank Holman (Twinsburg) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.
With 2 out in the bottom of the first inning of the nightcap, Vitense and junior second baseman Ryan Duckworth (Hilliard/Bradley) reached on infield singles before Padilla sent a ball over the fence in right center for a 3-0 Bishop lead.
The Tigers chipped away at the deficit, with Rodriguez singling in a run in the second and Alex Nemunaitis doubling home a run in the third, but Padilla's run-scoring double in the fourth extended the Bishop lead to 4-2.
Wittenberg closed to within 4-3 on Gryskevich's RBI single in the sixth.
In the top of the ninth, Nemunaitis was hit by a pitch to open the inning, and Rodriguez followed with a home run to right to put the visitors ahead.
Padilla was 2-for-3 with 4 RBI, and Duckworth went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Sophomore righthander Mikey Olivieri (Jackson Township/Jackson) was the losing pitcher in relief.
