Freshman outfielder Chameron Vanden Eynden (Goshen) collected 4 hits on the day for Ohio Wesleyan, but Denison took leads in each game and went on to sweep the Bishops in a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Margaret Sagan Field.
The Big Red got a 2-run double from Annabelle Calderon to take the lead in the the third inning of the opener, then added 3 runs in the fourth with the help of a 2-run single by Madilyn Moffitt.
Ohio Wesleyan got the 3 runs back in the bottom of the fifth as senior catcher Sara Bias (Sandusky/St. Mary's Central Catholic) scored on a double by junior outfielder Avery Panozzo (Denver, Colo./Mullen). Vanden Eynden, who had walked before Panozzo's double, scored as senior second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) struck out but reached first on a passed ball, and Panozzo scored as senior shortstop Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) struck out but reached first on a wild pitch.
Brooke Surbaugh singled home an insurance run in the seventh for the Big Red.
Vanden Eynden was 2-for-3 for Ohio Wesleyan. Senior lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.
Calderon again gave the Big Red an early lead in the nightcap, this time with a 3-run homer in the first inning, and the visitors added a pair of runs in the third after loading the bases with nobody out.
Panozzo and senior outfielder Rylie Moore (Noblesville, Ind.) knocked in runs as the Bishops closed to within 5-2, but Lellah Ferrari's 2-run single in the top of the seventh got the runs back for Denison.
Moore was 3-for-3 for Ohio Wesleyan, while Vanden Eynden and Cegledy each went 2-for-4. Sophomore righthander Makenna Knisley (Washington Court House/Washington) pitched the complete game for the Bishops.
