Freshman shortstop Luke Johnson (Cincinnati/Batavia West Clermont) and senior outfielder Edrick Padilla (Salinas, P.R./Perkiomen (Pa.) School) drove in 3 runs apiece to power the Bishops past John Carroll in a non-conference contest on Thursday at Littick Field.
The Blue Streaks took the lead in the top of the first inning on a 2-run double by Connor Mayle.
Junior second baseman Ryan Duckworth (Hilliard/Bradley) belted a solo homer in the third to put the Bishops on the scoreboard.
Ohio Wesleyan pulled ahead in the fourth, loading the bases as sophomore outfielder Colton Moone (South Vienna/Northeastern) singled, senior catcher Tyler Monaco (Centerville/South Mecklenburg (N.C.) walked, and senior outfielder Ryan Stefancin (Cleveland/North Ridgeville) was hit by a pitch before Johnson cleared the sacks with a double to center. The Bishops loaded the bases again as junior outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) was hit by a pitch and Duckworth walked before Padilla singled up the middle to score 2 more runs. Sophomore first baseman Zane Vitense (Maple Grove, Minn.) singled in a run to cap Ohio Wesleyan's 6-run uprising.
Padilla crushed a home run to right in the sixth to stretch the Bishop lead to 8-2.
John Carroll rallied in the eighth, loading the bases before Carson Balfour was hit by a pitch and Mayle followed with an infield single. Jack Harmon added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to bring the visitors within 8-5.
Padilla was 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, while Duckworth and Vitense each went 2-for-4. Freshman lefthander Robert Martin (South Webster) worked the first 5.0 innings, scattering 4 hits and striking out 4 while walking 2, to collect the win. Sophomore righthander Mikey Olivieri (Jackson Township/Jackson) pitched the final 2.0 innings to record a save.
