at NCAC combined events
Freshman Michael Strange (High Bridge, N.J./Voorhees) and sophomore Mack Fincham (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) represented Ohio Wesleyan during the first day of North Coast Athletic Conference decathlon competition, hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday in Oberlin.
Strange was in third place with 3371 points and Fincham was in eighth place with 2520 points.
Strange opened Saturday with the meet's best time in the 100-meter dash, breaking the tape in :11.11 to collect 836 points. Strange had the third-best performance in the long jump with a mark of 21-2, good for 686 points, the fourth-best effort in the shot put with a throw of 34-¾, raking in 508 points, and scored 569 more points with a 5-8 in the high jump before closing out the day with the meet's best time in the 400-meter dash, a :50.93, and 772 more points.
Fincham had the second-best performance in the high jump, clearing 5-11½ to claim 644 points, and picked up 618 points in the 100-meter dash with a clocking of :12.17.
The NCAC decathlon concludes on Sunday with the 110-meter hurdles, the discus, the pole vault, the javelin, and the 1500-meter run.
