Men's Track & Field Finishes Second at Marv Frye Invitational

2nd of 10 at Marv Frye Invitational

Sophomore Ryan Tripp (Sunbury/Big Walnut), freshman Dylan Harper (Marysville), and junior Trey Theobald (Archbold) won events for Ohio Wesleyan at the Marv Frye Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Selby Stadium and the George Gauthier Track.

Baldwin Wallace won the meet with 152 points to 121 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Albion finished third with 107 points, followed by Case Reserve (98), Denison (69), Kenyon (53), Heidelberg (45), Mount St. Joseph (31), Capital (17), and Hiram (5).

Tripp won the long jump with a leap of 22-2¼ and finished second in the high jump.

Harper won the 110-meter hurdles in :15.37 and placed third in the 400-meter hurdles.

Theobald won the javelin with a throw of 160-10.

Other standouts for the Bishops included junior Blake Johnson (Centerburg), who was third in the 5000-meter run; freshman Michael Strange (High Bridge, N.J./Voorhees), who finished third in the 110-meter hurdles; senior Antonio Sonego (Medina), who was third in the discus; freshman Connor Smith (Marysville), who placed fourth in the long jump and fifth in the high jump; sophomore Mack Fincham (Springfield/Kenton Ridge), who was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and eighth in the javelin; freshman Lucas Weaver (Galion/Northmor), who placed fourth in the 800-meter run; freshman Alex Bzdafka (Solon), who finished fourth in the pole vault; senior Jacob Bauer (Hilliard/Davidson), who finished fifth in the 400-meter dash; freshman Jayson Dyer (Kenton), who placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles; sophomore Chinedu Melenu (Bowie, Md.), who finished sixth in the triple jump; junior Coleman Kegler (Columbus/Upper Arlington), who placed sixth in the javelin; freshman Joel Adade (Columbus/Beechcroft), who was seventh in the 100-meter dash; junior Simon Leck (Toledo/St. Francis DeSales), who placed seventh in the 800-meter run; junior Mason Myers (Perrysville/Hillsdale), who finished seventh in the long jump; and sophomore Benjamin Blaumeiser (Kettering/Fairmont), who was eighth in the mile run.

The Ohio Wesleyan 400-meter relay team of Adade, Smith, senior Dylan Liggett (Medina), and Strange finished second, while the 1600-meter relay team of Bauer, freshman Alex Stoller (Waverly), sophomore Jake Marzulli (Medina), and Myers placed third.

The Marv Frye Invitational honors the late Battling Bishop mentor, who coached the Ohio Wesleyan men's track & field team from 1961-97.  Frye also coached men's cross country, women's track & field, and women's cross country during his time at Ohio Wesleyan, and remained active in the central Ohio track & field community for many years after his retirement.
