1st of 10 at Marv Frye Invitational

Sophomore Emily Davis (Brimfield/Mogadore Field) and freshman Elsa Hoam (Fredericktown) won events for Ohio Wesleyan as the Bishops won the team title at the Marv Frye Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Selby Stadium and the George Gauthier Track.

Ohio Wesleyan won the meet with 160 points to 152 for Case Reserve.  Baldwin Wallace was third with 110 points, followed by Albion (86), Denison (72), Heidelberg (43), Kenyon (33), Mount St. Joseph (26), Hiram (18), and Capital (5).

Davis won the discus with a throw of 125-10.

Hoam won the 3000-meter steeplechase in 12:02.98.

The Ohio Wesleyan 400-meter relay team of junior Sarah Mazzei (Rocky River), senior Addystin Lykins (Carey), senior Liberty Brock (Zanesville/New Concord John Glenn), and freshman Amarah McPhaul (Muncie, Ind./Daleville) won its event in :50.15.

Other standouts for the Bishops included Lykins, who placed second in the 200- and 400-meter dashes; Mazzei, who was second in the 100-meter dash and sixth in the 200-meter dash; freshman Addie Beck (Wadsworth), who placed second in the pole vault and eighth in the high jump; freshman Brianna Montgomery (Gibsonburg), who finished second in the 400-meter hurdles; freshman Taylor Noszka (Wilmington), who placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase; senior Ava Klann (Dublin/Coffman), who was second in the high jump; Brock, who finished third in the 200- and 400-meter dashes; sophomore Claire Coleman (Cincinnati/Ursuline Academy), who was third in the pole vault and fifth in the long jump; sophomore Hazel Jolliff (Cardington/Cardington-Lincoln), who finished third in the javelin; McPhaul, who placed fourth in the high jump; sophomore Phoebe Dreschel (Castalia/Margaretta), who finished fourth in the javelin; sophomore McKenna Downing (Pleasant Hill/Newton Local), who was fifth in the 400-meter dash; freshman Allison Dietz (Newark), who placed fifth in the 800-meter run; senior Sammy Maglott (Fredericktown), who placed fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase; sophomore Coral Pierson (Powell/Olentangy Liberty), who finished sixth in the 100-meter dash; junior Eleanor Luttman (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington), who placed sixth in the mile run; sophomore Marissa Siegel (Blacklick/Pataskala Licking Heights), who was sixth in the javelin; sophomore Celeste Swihart (Fredericktown), who finished seventh in the pole vault; and freshman Zoe Ward (Columbus/Worthington Christian), who was eighth in the 800-meter run.

The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of Montgomery, junior Katelyn Stapleton (Urbana/West Liberty Salem), senior Siarra Hoover (Frazeysburg/Newark Licking Valley), and junior Ashley Beatty (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) finished second.

The Marv Frye Invitational honors the late Battling Bishop mentor, who coached the Ohio Wesleyan men's track & field team from 1961-97.  Frye also coached men's cross country, women's track & field, and women's cross country during his time at Ohio Wesleyan, and remained active in the central Ohio track & field community for many years after his retirement.
