Sophomore midfielder Garrett Smith (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) scored Ohio Wesleyan's first 2 goals and junior attacker Spencer Amacher (Blacksburg, Va./Blue Ridge School) scored 3 times during a 7-0 run as the Bishops pulled away for a North Coast Athletic Conference win over DePauw on Sunday at Selby Stadium.
A pair of Smith goals gave the Bishops a 2-0 lead in the early going, and after DePauw's Gavin Berry put the Tigers on the scoreboard, freshman attacker Wade Beckstrom (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) and junior attacker Carson Geier (Milford) followed with scores to put Ohio Wesleyan up, 4-1, after the first quarter.
The Tigers closed to within 4-3 as Henry White and Jack Neff scored goals just :33 apart, but Amacher answered with a goal and Geier and junior midfielder Joey Weisman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) followed with goals to give the Bishops a 7-3 lead at the break, and freshman midfielder Henry Ross (Snoqualmie, Wash./Mount Si) tallied the only goal of the third period to increase the margin to 8-3.
Junior midfielder Brady Hunt (Maineville/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) scored in the opening minute of the fourth quarter and Amacher added 2 more goals as Ohio Wesleyan stretched its lead to 11-3 early in the fourth period.
Amacher led the Bishops with 3 goals and an assist, while Geier scored 3 goals and Smith added 2 goals and an assist. Senior Paddy Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) went the distance in the Bishop crease, finishing with 7 saves.
