A pair of late-game goals from sophomore forward Grace Ammon (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) and senior forward Colleen McMenamin (Chester, N.J./West Morris Regional) lifted Ohio Wesleyan to a 2-0 win over Sewanee on Friday at Selby Stadium.
The Bishops started strong in the first half, holding Sewanee to a single shot while getting off 12, but were unable to find the back of the net.
After a third quarter with no shots, the Bishops came out strong in the fourth. Ammon began the scoring with a shot from the middle of the circle 12 yards out. She sent the ball right past the keeper into the left side of the cage to give the Bishops a 1-0 advantage.
Five minutes later, McMenamin doubled the lead, scoring off a rebound. Ammon took a shot but it was deflected right to the stick of McMenamin, who tucked it right behind the keeper.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Sewanee, 15-1, and were 8-0 over the Tigers on penalty corners.
McMenamin led the scoring efforts with 4 shots, followed by Ammon with 3. Sophomore forward Mattison Hyland (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) and freshman forward Mary Powers (Centreville, Va./Chantilly) both added 2 shots. Senior goalkeeper Meg McCarthy (Trumbull, Conn.) made 1 save in the win.
