Gettysburg's Morgan Cherry scored on a penalty stroke in overtime to lift the Bullets over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Selby Stadium.
The Bishops got on the board early into the first quarter with a goal from sophomore forward Mattison Hyland (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley). Hyland cut inside the circle and sent her shot right past the left post.
Just over a minute later, Gettysburg tallied a goal to make it even at one apiece. The Bishops attempted to counter to take back the advantage but found themselves playing more defensively with Gettysburg earning 6 penalty corners in the first half.
The game remained tied until Gettysburg scored a tip-in off of a corner just as the third quarter came to a close. Their third goal came 10 minutes into the fourth quarter, giving them a 3-1 advantage.
The Bishops rallied during the fourth quarter of play, earning 6 penalty corners and scoring 2 goals. Hyland added her second goal and junior midfielder Avery Slucher (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy of Louisville) got her first of the season to tie the game once again.
Gettysburg outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 13-12, but the Bishops took 7 in the fourth quarter to try to notch a win. Junior forward Emma Wright (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) led the scoring efforts with 5 shots and Slucher followed with 3.
Senior Meg McCarthy (Trumbull, Conn.) recorded 2 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan cage.
