Bishops Handle Ohio Northern at Home, 74-59

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's basketball team welcomed Ohio Northern to town on Tuesday afternoon and controlled the game from the opening tip, scoring first and never relinquishing the lead on their way to a 74-59 victory. Domination in the paint defined the afternoon, as the Battling Bishops recorded a season-high 44 points down low.

Ohio Wesleyan advances to 4-1 on the season. Ohio Northern is still searching for their first win, as they fall to 0-5.

The Red and Black wasted no time, bursting out to an 11-0 lead to start the first quarter led by Alyssa Griner with four early points. ONU would find their groove shortly after however, as the Polar Bears went on a 13-6 run to close the opening period of play. The Bishops held a 17-13 advantage heading into the second quarter. OWU continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, opening with an 8-0 run. However, the Polar Bears kept fighting, trimming the deficit and narrowing the Bishop lead to 35-26 at halftime.

Following the intermission, the Red and Black put the contest out of reach. Maddie Ebbert and Macy Miller powered a 20-9 third quarter run, each contributing seven points. The Bishops carried a 55-37 lead into the fourth quarter. Ebbert and Miller continued to pace the Bishop offense in the final period, each adding five points. Although the Polar Bears outscored OWU 24-19 in the last 10 minutes, the lead proved insurmountable, and the Bishops secured their fourth win of the year, 74–59.
