DELAWARE, Ohio – The top-seeded Ohio Wesleyan University field hockey team hosted fourth-seeded Wittenberg in the NCAC Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday afternoon. The Battling Bishops tallied a trio of goals in the first quarter while holding the Tigers scoreless for all four to punch their ticket to the NCAC Tournament Championship on Saturday, 3-0.
OWU moves to 11-5 on the season after finishing NCAC play with an 8-1 mark. Wittenberg's season comes to a close at 6-11 overall with a previous 6-3 record in conference play.
The Bishops wasted no time with a trip to the conference title game on the line, netting thrice in the first quarter.
Emma Wright got it going in the 12th minute, finishing a pass across the circle from
Emma Morgeson.
Ammon added another in the 13th minute as she sent a rocket from the edge of the circle, straight through the traffic and into the back of the net. It would be less than two minutes before Ammon contributed to another goal, this time sending a ball towards the goal that would be redirected by
Mary Powers for the score.
Following the exciting first quarter, the remainder of the game was quiet on both sides. Wittenberg remained scoreless, being held to just two shots by the Red and Black. And Ohio Wesleyan – despite their best efforts – was fruitless on their remaining attacking attempts to leave the game with a 3-0 final.
