No. 19/16 Bishops Secure Seventh Win in a Row

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 19th/16th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University women's basketball team wrapped up action at the Music City Classic on Saturday with a primetime meetup with Simpson. The Battling Bishops would end up taking their win streak from six to seven with an eight-point victory over the Storm, 67-59. 

The Bishops improve to 8-1 on the year while Simpson slips to 4-5.

The game got out to a high-scoring start as the two sides combined for 40 points in the first quarter alone. OWU would hold a slight advantage after the first 10 minutes, 22-18 thanks to six points each from Macy Miller and Mia Guscoff. Miller also recorded seven of her 14 total boards in the first quarter.

Ohio Wesleyan was able to grow their lead ever-so-slightly in a close second quarter as they outscored the Storm 18-16. Kendall Dieringer led the Bishops with five points in the period as they took a 40-34 lead into the halftime break.

The Red and Black continued to creep further ahead with a 13-10 third quarter as Miller added six points and four rebounds to her totals to secure her seventh double-double of the year. OWU would hold a 53–44

The fourth quarter was the only in which Ohio Wesleyan was outscored – if only by a little bit – 15-14. This left the Bishops eight points ahead of Simpson in the end, 67-59. Dieringer led the Battling Bishops in the final period with six points.

THE NUMBERS
Macy Miller dropped her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds. She also had two blocks and one steal.

Kendall Dieringer one-upped her career high from the night before with 14 points including a career-high 4-for-6 from three–point range. She also had a steal.

Mia Guscoff finished with 12 points on four three-pointers alongside two rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

Alyssa Griner nabbed nine points and five rebounds along with one block and one steal.

Nora Johns scored six points and secured one rebound.

Maddie Ebbert tallied five points, a career-high five steals, five rebounds, and one block.

Katie Neuhart totaled four points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

Carly Lehman managed three points with two assists, one rebound, and one steal.

UP NEXT
The Battling Bishops take a break for the holidays before returning to Branch Rickey Arena on December 30th and 31st for their annual Hoops for Hope tournament. Ohio Wesleyan will take on Washington & Jefferson on the 30th at 2 p.m. followed by a game against Allegheny on the 31st at noon. Proceeds from the event will benefit Pink Ribbon Good.
