8th of 17 at All-Ohio championship

Sophomore Connor Smith (Marysville) and the Ohio Wesleyan distance medley relay team won All-Ohio honors to lead the Bishops at the All-Ohio championship, hosted by Otterbein University on Saturday in Westerville.

Mount Union won the meet with 124 points to 75 for Baldwin Wallace.  Denison was third with 66 points, followed by Ohio Northern (60½), Case Reserve (57), Otterbein (41½), John Carroll (39), Ohio Wesleyan (38), Wooster (32), Kenyon (27), Muskingum (22), Oberlin and Capital (21), Marietta (15), Hiram (12), Mount St. Joseph (11), and Heidelberg (0).

Smith finished second in the high jump with a height of 6-5¼.

The distance medley relay team of freshman Jacob Blubaugh (Columbus/Bishop Ready), sophomore Perry Jackson (Springfield/New Carlisle Tecumseh), senior Wes Horton (Worthington/Thomas Worthington), and senior Preston Pethtel (Heath) finished second in 10:46.37.

Other standouts for the Bishops included sophomore Alex Bzdafka (Solon), who was fourth in the pole vault; sophomore Dylan Harper (Marysville), who placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles; Blubaugh, who was seventh in the 800-meter run; junior Ryan Tripp (Sunbury/Big Walnut), who finished seventh in the long jump; and Pethtel, who placed eighth in the 3000-meter run.

The Ohio Wesleyan 800-meter relay team of sophomore Joel Adade (Columbus/Beechcroft), junior Joe Larkins (Cleveland/Ginn Academy), Smith, and freshman Logan Lang (Sunbury/Big Walnut) finished fourth, while the 1600-meter relay team of Tripp, Blubaugh (Columbus/Bishop Ready), freshman Dominic Brown (Marysville), and Smith finished sixth.
