12th of 13 at Manchester Mid-State Invitational

Freshman Liam Hatgas (Parma Heights/Holy Name) placed for Ohio Wesleyan at the Mid-State Invitational, hosted by Manchester University on Saturday in North Manchester, Ind.

Baldwin Wallace won the meet with 186 points to 159 for Manchester.  Wabash was third with 153½ points, followed by Lakeland (81), Ohio Northern (72½), Olivet (71), Heidelberg (64), Mount St. Joseph (48½), Alma (47), Adrian (41½), Trine (34½), Ohio Wesleyan (16), and Muskingum (15).

Hatgas placed fifth in the 141-pound bracket.  After opening the day with a 9-3 decision over Evan Smith of Manchester, Hatgas pinned Blaise Kokkales of Adrian to move into the quarterfinals.  There, Hatgas lost an 8-2 decision to Dylan Le of Ohio Northern.  In the consolation bracket, Hatgas advanced on an injury default before taking a 7-2 decision in a rematch with Kokkales.  In the fifth-place match, Hatgas won by no contest over Gabe Hansen of Ohio Northern.

Sophomore Andrew Mushkin (Phoenix, Ariz./Corona del Sol) and senior Des Perry (Garnet Valley, Pa.) advanced in the championship bracket in their respective weight classes.

At 174, Mushkin advanced in the championship bracket with a 9-3 decision over Elijah Biggs of Mount St. Joseph before falling to Dawson Studebaker of Alma and losing a technical fall to Drake Hurley of Adrian, 15-0.  Perry, wrestling at 184, won a 15-9 decision over Gavin Wickham of Heidelberg before losing a 15-0 technical fall to Zachary Huckaby of Wabash and falling to Titus Ray of Ohio Northern.
