Dortmund Named Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of Year, Bishops Third at NCAC

Freshman Katherine Dortmund (Westerville/Columbus St. Francis DeSales) received a special award in leading Ohio Wesleyan during the second day of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday in Oberlin.

DePauw won the meet with 199 points to 157 for Wittenberg.  Ohio Wesleyan finished third with 118 points, followed by Denison (83), Kenyon (57), Wooster (38), Oberlin (34), and Hiram (14).

Dortmund was named Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Year after winning the 60-meter dash in :07.78, finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles by a margin of 5/1000 of a second, placing sixth in the 200-meter dash, and leading off the Bishops' league-champion 800-meter relay team, combining with freshman Aelyn Baumbarger (Marysville), freshman Yehdeiah Dennis (Columbus/Beechcroft), and freshman Kennedy Elfers (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) to break the tape in 1:44.72.

Junior Claire Coleman (Cincinnati/Ursuline Academy) also won a conference championship, taking the pole vault by clearing 11-2½.

Also winning All-NCAC honors were sophomore Allison Dietz (Newark), who placed second in the 3000-meter run and added a sixth-place finish in the mile run; sophomore Brianna Montgomery (Gibsonburg), who was third in the mile run and the 800-meter run; and sophomore Addie Beck (Wadsworth), who finished third in the pole vault.

Other standouts for the Bishops included freshman Jera Hoy (Radnor/Buckeye Valley), who was fourth in the shot put; senior Aliisa James (Miamisburg/Dayton Christian), who was sixth in the 400-meter dash; sophomore Jackie Rychlik (Marysville), who finished sixth in the pole vault; Elfers, who finished seventh in the 200-meter dash; Dennis, who was seventh in the 400-meter dash; sophomore Alexis Eusey (Marengo/Highland), who placed seventh in the shot put; junior McKenna Downing (Pleasant Hill/Newton Local), who placed seventh in the mile run; sophomore Elsa Hoam (Fredericktown), who finished eighth in the mile run; and junior Phoebe Dreschel (Castalia/Margaretta), who was eighth in the shot put.

The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of
senior Katelyn Stapleton (Urbana/West Liberty Salem), Dennis, James, and Montgomery finished seventh.
