Clarkson 8, Ohio Wesleyan 5

Junior catcher Carter Vilevac (Sheffield Village/Brookside) smashed a 2-run homer that gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead, but Clarkson rallied to take a non-conference win over the Bishops on Friday in Auburndale, Fla.

Vilevac walked, stole second, and scored on a single by senior shortstop Noah Brazytis (Euclid/Cleveland St. Ignatius) in the second, but the Golden Knights answered with a 2-run homer by Cam Jerrett in the top of the third.

Vilevac countered with a 2-run shot of his own in the bottom of the inning, scoring junior outfielder Matt Spencer (Hillard/Darby), who had drawn a 2-out walk.

Clarkson evened the game in the fourth when Christopher Griggs doubled and scored, and the Golden Knights went ahead on Seth Albert's sacrifice fly during a 2-run sixth frame.  David Harris and Griggs drove in runs with sacrifice flies in the seventh and ninth innings respectively.

Junior first baseman Alex Snyder (Massillon/Jackson) and sophomore shortstop Michael Malone (Carroll/Bloom-Carroll) knocked in runs in the bottom of the inning to bring the Bishops within 8-5, but Clarkson reliever Ryan Petrie got Spencer to bounce into a double play with the bases loaded to end the game.

Junior first baseman Zane Vitense (Maple Grove, Minn.) was 2-for-4 and senior outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) went 2-for-5 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Junior righthander Hank Holman (Twinsburg) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.
