Baldwin Wallace 68, Ohio Wesleyan 65

Fifth-year guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) knocked down a jumper from the lane that gave 16th/18th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan a 65-63 lead with :25 remaining in regulation time, but 7th/10th-ranked Baldwin Wallace scored the last 5 points of the game to win an NCAA Division III sectional semifinal matchup on Friday in Bloomington, Ill.

The Yellow Jackets advance to face the winner of Friday's game between Illinois Wesleyan and Wisconsin-Oshkosh in a national quarterfinal game on Saturday, with the winner of that contest moving on to the NCAA Division III national semifinals in Salem, Va.

With the score tied at 59, sophomore post Macy Miller (Marysville/Milford Center Fairbanks) sank a lay-in and a jumper to give Ohio Wesleyan a 63-59 advantage with 1:35 remaining.

Baldwin Wallace answered with a lay-in by Bella Vaillant, and the Bishops had a chance to restore the 4-point margin when fifth-year point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) drove the lane, but Homan's lay-in didn't fall and the Yellow Jackets cleared the rebound.  Maddie Ebbert was fouled with :40 to play and hit both free throws to even the score at 63.

Schipfer's jumper put the Bishops up, 65-63, but BW took the lead on its ensuing possession when Caely Ressler buried a 3-pointer with :18 to go.

The Bishops had a chance to take the lead, but on a drive to the basket with just under 2 seconds to play, Schipfer was called for an offensive foul.  Emily Irwin sank a pair of free throws for BW to account for the 68-65 final.

Baldwin Wallace built a 17-9 lead late in the first quarter but saw the Bishops close to within 19-15 on a Homan trifecta, and the Yellow Jackets went up by a 37-27 count late in the second period before leading 39-31 at the break.

Ohio Wesleyan opened the second half with a 13-2 run, with Miller scoring 6 points and Homan 4.  Another Miller jumper gave the Bishops a 48-43 lead midway through the quarter, but Baldwin Wallace held Ohio Wesleyan scoreless for the next 7 minutes while taking a 51-50 lead early in the fourth period.

From there, it remained a one-possession game until Miller's jumper gave the Bishops the 63-59 lead at the 1:35 mark, setting up the final minutes.

Miller led the Bishops with 20 points.  Schipfer finished with 16 points, senior post Karlee Ross (Beverly/Fort Frye) added 13 points and a team-high 7 boards, and Homan compiled 11 points and 6 assists.
