Ohio Wesleyan University senior Tyler Bodovetz (Streetsboro) competed at the NCAA Division III wrestling championship, hosted by Johnson & Wales University on Friday in Providence, R.I.

Wrestling at 174, Bodovetz drew defending national champion Jared Stricker of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the first round, and Stricker advanced with a 15-0 technical fall.

In the consolation bracket, Bodovetz squared off against Eddie Simes of Wisconsin-La Crosse, with Simes advancing after a 20-4 technical fall.

Bodovetz qualified for the national championship with a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III Central Regional tournament on March 1.  Bodovetz was the first Ohio Wesleyan wrestler to compete in the national championship meet since 1979, when Mark Rodan competed as a heavyweight, and was the first to do so since the Ohio Wesleyan wrestling program was reinstated to varsity status.
