at NCAA Division III championship

Sophomore Connor Smith (Marysville) won second-team All-America honors in the high jump during the second day of the NCAA Division III championship meet, hosted by Nazareth College on Saturday in Rochester, N.Y.

Smith cleared the first 2 heights, 6-4¾ and 6-6¾, on the first attempt but missed all 3 attempts at 6-8¾.  His final height of 6-6¾ was good for a tie for 13th place in the final standings and second-team All-America recognition.

Smith was tied for the No. 12 seed with a height of 6-9, having recorded that performance at the Dr. Taraschke Team Challenge on Feb. 1.  At the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, Smith won All-NCAC honors, tying for the top height at 6-7½ but finishing second after losing a tiebreaker.
