Senior outfielder Avery Panozzo (Denver, Colo./Mullen) delivered a walk-off double to lift Ohio Wesleyan over Ohio Northern in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at Margaret Sagan Field.

In the nightcap, fifth-year third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark) and sophomore outfielder Rylea Gist (Delaware/Hayes) had 2-run singles as the Bishops raced to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Ohio Northern rallied for the win and salvaged a split of the twinbill.

Gist and senior second baseman McKenna Tuttle (Richmond, Ky./Model Laboratory School) had 2-run singles to help the Bishops to a 5-0 first-inning lead in the opener, and the Bishops extended the lead to 9-4 in the third as sophomore outfielder Chameron Vanden Eynden (Goshen), Back, and Gist came through with consecutive RBI singles.

Ohio Northern closed to within 9-8 in the fourth with the help of Jaylee Fansler's 2-run double and took an 11-10 lead in the fifth with the help of Carlie Schroeder's 2-run homer.

Panozzo doubled in a run and Gist lined an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth for a 13-11 Ohio Wesleyan lead, but the Polar Bears rallied to tie the game at 13 in the top of the seventh.

Tuttle led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on Panozzo's double over the head of Ohio Northern leftfielder Mackenzie Hannahs.

Gist went 4-for-5, tying the Ohio Wesleyan single-game record for hits, and drove in 4 runs.  Senior righthander Kaelyn Rodriguez (South El Monte, Calif.) was the winning pitcher in relief.

After the Bishops went up, 4-0, in the nightcap, the visitors rallied with a 2-run single by Hannahs in the second and a 2-run double by Allie Wilson in the third on the way to a 6-4 lead, and Ohio Northern scored 4 runs in the fourth.

Back had an unusual 2-run sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it a 10-7 game, but the Polar Bears pushed across 4 runs in the top of the fifth.  The game was called because of darkness with 2 out in the top of the sixth inning.

Panozzo was 2-for-2, while Vanden Eynden and Gist each went 2-for-3.  Sophomore righthander Shelby Morris (Centerburg) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.
