Baseball Defeats Hanover

Senior second baseman Ryan Duckworth (Hilliard/Bradley) knocked in 4 runs to help Ohio Wesleyan outslug Hanover in a non-conference matchup on Friday in Marietta, Ohio.

The Bishops struck for 3 runs in the top of the first, loading the bases with nobody out before a sacrifice fly by Duckworth, an infield out off the bat of junior catcher Carter Vilevac (Sheffield Village/Brookside), and a run-scoring single by sophomore third baseman Michael Malone (Carroll/Bloom-Carroll) put the Bishops on the scoreboard.

Hanover narrowed the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the inning, but the Bishops answered with 5 runs in the top of the second, highlighted by a 2-run double by Duckworth.

Ohio Wesleyan broke the game open with 8 runs in the fifth, getting a 2-run single by
junior outfielder Colton Moone (South Vienna/Northeastern) and bases-loaded walks by senior outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) and Duckworth.

Junior first baseman Zane Vitense (Maple Grove, Minn.) went 3-for-5, Stoner was 2-for-3 with 4 runs scored, Duckworth was 1-for-2 with 4 RBI, and Malone and Moone each had 2 hits and 3 RBI.

Junior righthander Parker Tomlin (Atlanta, Ga./Westerville (Ohio) Central) worked the first 5.0 innings, scattering 6 hits and striking out 4 while walking one, to record the win.
